Ruvyironza River

Our first hydroelectric site (1000-1500KW) is on the Ruvyironza River, which is the southern-most tributary of the Nile River. This river flows north into the Ruvubu River, which then joins a river from Rwanda to form the Kagera River to flow into Lake Victoria. There is debate about the “true” source of the Nile River – because some define it as the largest body of water feeding the Nile (Lake Victoria), or the longest tributary feeding the Nile (in Rwanda), or the southern-most tributary feeding the Nile (in Burundi).

Songa Energy is proud to be developing a small hydropower site on the Ruvyironza River, just downstream of the southern-most source of the mighty Nile River!
